Key West, Florida

Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
Smell those shrimp--
They're beginnin' to boil.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

We were here in October and let me tell you this is one great little town.  To get here there are 42 bridges to go over that connect more than 100 islands, over a distance of 126 miles.

While we were there we visited Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville,  Sloppy Joe's Bar, Hemingway's house and the rest of the usual tourest traps. A must see if you go there is the nightly Sunset Celebration.  Not only will you see a spectacular sunset, but will be entertained by various carnival performers and vendors.   One of the vendors sells the most delicious key lime margarita you will ever have.  I would go back for this alone!!  The entertainment here includes fire eaters, jugglers, a houdini wannabee who escapes from a prison of chains and more.  There are singers, guitar players and musicians of all sorts.    A fun place to visit.

I grew up in Miami and The Keys were always a favorite haunt of mine. Fabulous pics, thanks for bringing back the memories of one of my favorite places.

I love Key West as well, Bob. It's a great place to visit and live. In fact, I miss it so much, I wrote a book, Destiny, that takes place in Key West. If you would like a copy, I'd be happy to send you one. It's a romantic suspense and was inspired by my many visits to the balmy island. No wonder Hemingway made it his home!

My Husband and I were there in April of 2004. We stayed at the Marriot and could not have been in better hands. The Lady at the Hotel Desk her  Name  is Leann. She saw to it our needs were met. There is also a Lady name Denise that has a Visiters acttive station, she was very helpful to us I had a medical problem that was needed attention  she made all the arrangements both with my doctor here in Mobile and with the hospital there in key west. The employees at the hospital were just wonderful they made me very comfortable and put me and my husband at great ease and that means a lot being away from home being away from your dr. when medical attention is needed. After all was taken care of we continued with our tour and enjoyed the city and would go back and will at the drop of a hat.

I've been there many times over the past 15 years.  You really don't see Key West until you sport fish on the flats especially around the Marquais.  It's a group of islands about 45 minutes off Key West that form a circle, the pirates used to hide in them and rob passing ships.  I fish for Permit, Tarpin, Baracuda, and Shark with Mike Wilbur and/or Todd Bowen.  Once you've done that you've truly experienced Key West mon.  Stay at the Conch House sometime, what a thrill and right off Duvall Street.

Just returned from another great trip June 5,2004. Been going there since 1980 and it still has a certain charm. Areas have had many changes but improvements. Lots of building and real estate is now expensive.  Sunsets can't be beat. Fishing is great on Captain John's boat The Greyhound. It is ideal for families also. Wylan just opened a great gallery on Duval and redid the big painting on the wall by Waterfront Market. Yes, Margaritaville is great.

June 22nd. Moved here a few months ago, and have been coming down here for quite some time.  We recently sold and left, (thank God) the Destin area, more specifically  Dune Allen Beach.  It is nothing like the Fl Keys, the people down here have the right attitude and enjoy life, unlike those want-a-b's in the Destin area as a whole aka: aptly named," The Red Kneck Riviera".

I hope to never go back: svg

Interesting dichotomy.  We went to Margaritaville in Cancun and decided it was an armpit.  Cancun has many, many excellent places to eat, but Margaritaville wasn't one of them.  Cheeseburger in paradise?  Not!

I visited Ket West many times as a kid and as soon as I graduated high school up north I moved to the keys. I never had so much fun and met so many wonderful people. I worked at the sandbar on Little Torch for 5 years and always helped the diveshops for lobster season. I also met the love of my life in key west and unfortunatly he passed away last week so this comment is really for him. Rick I love you and I always will! The keys are the best place in the world!

Just got back from Key West (june 04), haven't been there since 1971. The atmosphere is still the same just alittle more modern but hey we're talking 34 years here!!.....still loved the sunsets, in my hippy days and I did LOVE them....the sunset thing at the pier was called "The Sundown"....still the same tho....with the artists etc etc.....all in all, still loved the Keys. Brings back the memories and made some new ones with my hubby of 27 years.....only regret was that I didn't buy some real estate back then.....
