Hotel del Coronado

On our recent visit to San Diego, we spent a day on the quint island of Coronado.  On the water's edge of the Pacific  Ocean is the Hotel del Coronado, a beautiful classic hotel, built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977.  I read somewhere that the USA Today calls it "one of the top resorts in the world," how about that?  So if you are looking for a romantic setting, a family vacation or a business meeting and you have lots of money, this would be the place to go.  We enjoyed our cheeseburgers lunch here for a mere $55.  We were not dressed to have dinner here, and it just as well. LOL

I can't say enough about this hotel.  So I'll tell you more.   Two men purchased the entire island for $110,000, which was just sage brush and dunes.  But I guess they were men with a vision and here are. Over the years many stars and dignitaries have vacationed here, Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Charles Lindbergh,  President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan to name a few.   I hate being a name dropper!

The island boasts a beautiful public golf course and the most lovely white sandy beaches.  It was pleasant  just to walk along the beach walkways and enjoy the  activities in the water.  There was surfing, which we had not seen before,  shell hunters, rock climbing and surf fishing.  A most enjoyable day.

Like your photo of the day. The digital traveler usually travels on weekends and every third month internationally. The time inbetween, he sorts through the 10,000 photos he already has.
